Pole fish down the Balic Wharf. 14-04-11

Popped down the Baltic Wharf this morning,
fished from 08.00 till 14.00.

I used a 3grm Sensas Desque to a size 18 hook on the 8mtr line.
This was the bottom of a drop off.
I used Maggot, Casters and Worm as baits, fished over
a mix of Sensas groundbaits
which were Sensas Magic,Gros Gardons and Brown Crumb.
Hemp seed was loose fed as were Casters and Maggots.
The only fish caught on this line was this 2ld 3oz Skimmer.
which took chopped worm.
The inner line at 5mtrs was fished with a 1.25grm Durafloat
again with size 18 hooks.
Same Baits again but this time ground bait was not used.
I had a one more skimmer, a few Roach and Dace
as well as the usual small Perch.

In total I ended up with 5ld 6oz.
Most were caught on Caster, except the Perch
which loved the Maggot as usual.

This photo shows the biggest Roach and smaller Skimmer.
Watch out for Ferry Boat No 7
the skipper kept trying to hit the end of my Pole with the boat.
Think a letter to the harbour master is required.

Dutchess Lake 23-03-11

Fished the lake from 08.00 till 13.00.

Weather was frosty at first and warm later,
light easterly breeze and bright sunshine.

Fished half way along the the northern bank next to
a large reed bank.

Used pooped up sweet corn and Tiger Nut Boilies
over a bed of pellets, sweet corn and chopped up boillies.
The Carp rig as usual produced a big fat nothing.

The waggler float rig wasn't much better.
Maggots, Casters and sweet corn
producing around 2 1/2ld of small Skimmer Bream and Roach.

I think it was just to bright on top of a frost.

Hmmmmm better luck time.

Up Rockingham way 18-03-11.

Popped over to the Grass Bank by the Estuary
yesterday evening.

High tide was at 17.34 and 12.1 mtrs.
I fished from 15.40 till 18.45.
Baits used were Lug and Rag worm.
Rigs used were
3/0 Pennel Pulley, Size 1 Wishbone rig and Zip slider flowing trace.

Bites from the off on all rigs produced
5 small Codling best about 8 inches.

Weather was sunny and warm at first
turning to drizzle and chilly later.
a light westerly wind was blowing all the time.

Portishead Yacht Club 15-03-11

Title should read "Plonker out fishing"

Popped down at 09.45.
Set up two rods with pulley rigs and one with
a wish bone rig.
Baits were Rag, Squid and Bluey.

That was the good bit.

After that my casting was rubbish,
and the line on one of the reels
proved it needs changing.

After 2 hours of dodgy casting
and messing about,
I called it day and went home!!!!!!!!!!

Snuff Mill 24-02-11

My younger brother Micheal popped down for a few days
and wanted to try some "trotting a river fishing".
Well with the Frome feeling a bit under the weather,
running with some light brown colour, we had a chuck or two.
Maggot was the bait, reds and whites, and 5BB
Avon and 4BB stick floats to size 18 hooks.

Micheal was first in with this P.B. (personal best) Minnow

He was well chuffed, bless him.
Then he pulled in a nice surprise
a small Dace. First one I've seen here ever.
Magic having these great little fish on this stretch.
My turn next, I manged this little Brown Trout
Micheal's favorite fish.
A very slow couple of hours fishing,
good fun and good company.

Portishead Yacht Club

Using up left over bait I headed
to the shingle bank.
Everything the same as Sundays trip
including the size of fish.
High water was at 09.54 and 14 mtrs.
Flat calm and misty.
I managed to miss a possible Thornback Ray whilst
winding in through the rocks and weed.
Great bite, bit of a rattle, then a slow
pull down of the rod tip.
It stayed still for a while, more rattles
then a good drop back.
Also had a hook length bitten through on a gentle rattle.
An other enjoyable mornings fishing.
