Baltic Wharf 18-06-10

With the casters and maggots left over from wednesday
I used a brown crumb, Beet, Gros Gardons, and lake
Ground bait. Also a special seed mix.
With six orange size balls of ground bait in straight away
loose fed maggots, casters and seed every few minutes and put in.
Straight away the float bobed and a small roach was in the
keep net.
With this 1ld ish Skimmer Bream coming to the net
after about 20 minutes.

Then a steady flow of Skimmers
to 2ld 9oz were netted
This net weighed 6ld 7oz.
This was the largest Skimmer at 3 ld 15oz
I could not get it to 4ld.
This net came to 3ld 4oz
Total net weight was 26ld 2oz.
Best days fishing down the docks EVER!
I was using 5ld main line with 2ld 8oz hook lenght to size 16 hook.
I fished the pole at 7mtrs with a number 8 and 5 elastic.
Foats used were a 2gr sensas Deque and 1.25gr Series f.
Most of the Skimmers were taking the baits on the drop with float not cocking
or being pulled under.
Weather was sunny then cloudy back to sunshine,
then the thicker cloud came over as I packed up.
Light breaze now and again.
Most of the fish were caught when there was cloud cover
or the boats were about.

Snuff Mill 16-06-10

The river coarse fishing season started today.
So off I toddled to the River Frome at Snuff Mill
Frenchay.
Useing a 13ft float rod and small Crow quill Avon float
to size 16 hook.
Also a 7ft 3/4 fly rod.
Bait was Maggots, Casters and bread.
First fish was a a small Minnow to Maggot on the float rod.
Next was a Chub of 2ld 1oz. It took a
floated piece of bread free lined under the trees
on the fly rod.
It was to dark to get a photo of the Chub under the trees.

A move to a new swim

This tiny Trout took double red Maggot
on the Crow quill, it gave a very spirited fight for its size.
Then more Minnows like this one even with
a fair amount of liquidised bread going in.
Back down stream and a new swim.
First cast produced this slightly larger Trout, (nice to see
the trout are spawning successfully).
Then over the next 45 minutes I managed
4 of my favorite fresh water fish ROACH.

The water clear and very slow with a gusty down stream wind,
not the best but still a very goo 4 hour session.

Baltic Wharf with my son

Fished my usual spot down at the Wharf.
This Gig was given a good outing.
I dont know what this vessel is but its curtainly a
looker.
My son Andrew concentrating on the float
Amongst the usual Roach, Perch, and odd Skimmers
we both had one of these little Snotties each.

My largiest fish was this Skimmer.
Come on smile (Miserable old sod)
Andrew caught this little Brown Trout
As can be seen the weather was hot and calm.
We had to change the colour of the Maggots
just to keep the fish intrested.
Same ground baits were also used as was the seed blend.
Andrew had some liquidized bread, when he tried it
tempted some nice roach. (Note self take some liquidized bread)
Scores on the doors
Andrew most fish 5 3/4lds burnt arms and legs? OUCH

Me 6 3/4lds

Baltic Wharf 19-05-10

Another dabble down at the wharf produced
this bag of a couple of pounds of Roach, Dace and Perch
A little spicky Perch

Nice silver Dace
Moored on my usual peg is this house boat
A few quid floating past

Usual baits and rigs used bit it was a bit colder with a light
brease from the east (left to right).
Bits were really hard to hit and hard to come by.
Fished 08.00 till 12.00
End result was 2x 1/2ld Roach plus 4 smaller ones
and 10 Perch and 3 Dace.

Baltic Wharf 29-04-10

Fished at Baltic Wharf in Bristol Docks.
Picked a spot between pegs 9 and 10,
on the eastern end of the wharf.
I started at 08.00 and fished till 12.00.
Baits were the usual maggots and caster
over Beet, Gros Gordens ground bait and brown
crumb. Also loose fed part mix seed.
At 61/2 mtrs I loose fed maggot, caster and seed.
1/2 a pouch of each every 3 or 4 minutes.
At 9 mtrs I put in 6 orange size balls of the ground bait
and loose fed 1/2 pouch of the maggots, caster and seed.
First fish of the day was a small Perch on the 61/2mtr line.
Then a few more roach and perch.
After an hour I tried over the 9mtr line and caught more
Perch and also some Dace.
Then the float slowly pulled under and on stricking
I felt a better wait! After a short but sprightly fight
a Skimmer Bream of around 2 1/2ld was in the net.
Bigger fish in the middle.
Back to the inside line,
and the small roach and perch kept coming.
Then the float shot under and the elastic shot out,
a 5 minute struggle a beautiful Roach of around 2 to 2 1/2 ld
was in the net. What a lovely fish.
Probably my favorite fish.
With the bites slowing up I packed up and headed for home.
Roll on the next week for an other go.
Total was 26 fish for around 6 to 7 pounds.
(Note to self)
Must get a good pair of scales?!!!!!

Baltic Wharf fishing 11-04-10

Back to the Wharf on sunday morning
This time fished 07.00 till 12.00
Colder, windier and cloudier.
Oh yes different float.

This time I waited 1 1/2 hours for the first bite?
Again a small Roach.

The 10mtr line which was the same as the last trip,
was not showing any more intrest.

I tried 5mtrs and double white magot.
Yippee this was a good move!
A slow steady catch rate produced 11 more fish. The
last hour and nothing. Oooohhhh wellllll never mind.

Largest fish was this 3oz Roach.
Also caught were a couple of Dace
A better picture of casters
This house was towed past.
Uuuuuggggggllllllyyyyy or WHAT
I'll have to fish this peg more often.
I want some of the bigger Bream.

Baltic Wharf fishing 09-04-10

Fished Baltic Wharf from 08.00 - 12.00
Weather 100% great.
The only cloud about was caused by all the
contrails left by high flying aircraft.
At least you know where the Breacon Beacons are.
Baits used were
Cooked Hemp seed
Magots and Casters
This shows how calm the Basin was.
The fishing its self was poor.
I waited an hour before my first bite. A small 2oz Roach.
Over the next hour and 1/2 I managed 5 more little Roach
all taking Caster baits to size 20 hook.
The last hour and a half was spoiled by diesel being spilled
at the refueling point to my right.
The smell was very strong and no more bites were had.
Look carfully and the film of oit can be seen to the left of the date
in the photo below.
