Ladye Bay ledges, 23-04-17

Squid, Mackerel and Sandeel
were the baits chosen
for my trip down to the ledges at Ladye Bay.
I arrived at 07.30 to fish
the tide down and two hours up.
Low water was at  midday.
This was the sight
that greeted me when
I arrived.
It was also the route I'd
take half an hour later,
as the tide receded.
There were rattles on the rods
from the off,
First to show was a small
Doggie taking Sandeel.
That was followed by a
small strap Conger on whole Squid.
 Next on Sandeel was a
this rather larger Dogfish again
taking Sandeel'
 After that there was the
occasional bait ripped apart
or totally stripped hook but
nothing landed.
However
big sand at low tide
and really great weather.
 I guess that's the reason
for the shyer bites.
Just look at that photo,
absolute magic.

A day out on Amarisa. 9-4-17

"At last!"
The four of us exclaimed as we
met up at the dock side at
Weymouth.
We were just about to board the
Amarisa.
My youngest son Andrew
traveled down with me,
While Jason and his young Lady
had a shorter journey.
We steamed out at 08.00
about an hour we arrived at our first spot
and the baits lowered.
This was a bit of rough gound mark.
From the off Dogies
were on the baits.
Jason had a Conger
of 15lb plus. The odd Bullhuss and
Pouting were also caught.
An hour and a half later
we steamed to our second
grounds for a while of drifting.
This was over sandy banks
with the shallow banks
throwing up some rougher waters.
This was not very fruitful,
with only one small Turbot
and a Dogie taking the baits.
A well pleased Andrew
with his first ever
Bullhuss.
 Myself with my two younger
boys. My eldest son was on
Children care duty.
 Third spot was a cracker
With bites before the baits hit the bottom.
Everyone caught Pouting, there were loads of them.
Bullhuss were also caught
 Along with Small Eyed Ray,
 New species for Jason.
 New species for me
a Lobster.
This one went back as it was a female
with eggs
A couple of
Pollack
were also caught.
Andrew was well pleased
with this one.
A Starry Smooth Hound
a first for me
Took a whole Squid.

The Skipper admiring
the Starry

Andrew having a
Chat with a Bullhuss
New species for Jason
and an other for his
World Sea Fishing Forum
Species Hunt 2017

Baits used were
Mackerel, Squid and Sand Eel.
It was sunny all day
but a chilly breeze
kept up all day.
Great company,
great Skipper and
a greatly need
escape for all.

Ladye Bay, Ledges.02-03-17

Down to the Ledges for some
hoped for Thornie action.
High water was at
12 noon
and 12.0 meters high.
I fished from 08.30 till 13.00.
Squid, Mackerel and Sandeel
were the chosen baits,
loaded on to 3/0 and 4/0
pennel pulley rigs.
The Squid baits were
attacked from the start.
However nothing was landed till
09.50.
This small Codling took a liking
to Squid.
 Then at 10.00
the Sandeel tempted
another small Codling.
A lull then till
11.23
when another Codling
took a liking to Sandeel.
This Codling had a hook
from being caught before.
Luckily the hook came out easily.
Just after the top of the tide I
had a good rattle and pull down bite.
I should have left it a bit longer
as I lost what I think was a
Thornback Ray on winding in.
Well that was the last of the action.
What a great session,
Warm, Sunny no wind
and calm.
